Conflict Resolution Exercise

Unit 7: Negotiation Style Exercise

The style of conflict resolution that best describes me according to the survey is Collaborating. This is because I show a lot assertive behavior and I also show a lot of cooperation. The survey stated that I work well with others and I believe that the best ideas can come from one or more people working together, rather than myself working alone.
I believe that my identified style is accurate. I think this because this style of conflict resolution arises every single time I work in a group. For example, I’m working in a team right now to complete a project, and I like to express how I want things done, but I greatly appreciate when others in my team do the same. I like to work together with my team members to come up with ideas, because the outcome is personal to all of us. But also, the outcome of the work done is a lot better because no one is bossing anyone around; my team members are free to do what they please, as long as we are getting work done and sticking to the plan that we originally came up with.
I agree with the general descriptions of all five of the conflict management styles. I agree with these because I can see them in my life. I’ve worked with people that have a competing style and avoiding style the most, and even though I don’t think they’re the best ways to solve conflicts, in my personal opinion, you still have to work with these people and understand how they resolve conflicts so that you’re able to work with them.

I believe that the information given in this questionnaire can be very useful for future conflict situations. I think that because this helps me better understand how people work, and how I need to work with them in order to succeed. Also, I learned how I handle conflicts, because I’ve never thought about it in the past. I think this questionnaire was very informative, and I definitely agree with my outcome.
